Yes, I'm ok with Jan. too. I'm stressing a little about the December 30.

I'll be finished on time, but I don't have any problems with extending to January either.

Lol...I WISH that was the reason! Theres too many flaws in it to show off, though! I didn't finish the last group build, so I wanted to be sure I finished this one!

Well, guys....stick a fork in mine, it's done! I decided in the beginning to limit myself to IPMS OOB rules, and I managed to learn a few techniques along the way. This was a LOT of fun...even including the problem with the decals. Since they chipped and cracked, I decided to attempt to make lemonade out of lemons and weathered it up like it just finished a race. I probably overdid it a little, but thats ok....like I said, this was fun.....and thats what it's all about!!!

Tommy, be sure to post this in the Display Case section, too. That way, it's eligible for the Model of the Month.

Tommy,

Real nice and I have enjoyed watching the build. Right now if I did an Auto I would have to cover my flaws by making the car look like it had been in a demolition derby.

Tommy, that car looks great! I love the tire and brake dust.
With this car you got me to thinking about all the times I've been to Road Atlanta and the many drivers I've seen there. I got on the Internet to look some of them up and found some stuff on this car. Check the pics on these sites:

Looking at these pics, you did a bang-up job on your model.

Oh man, I can't believe I didn't catch this on the day you posted it. I'm usually pretty good at checking. Tommy, this is spectacular! I wasn't expecting the weathering, but I can't see it without to be honest. Was that an airbrush and wash you used? The pains you went through on the decals really paid off. I have kind of procrastinated, I mean stalled, on mine for the time being. School's out, so I'm hoping to get back on it next Monday. So what is on the slate for you next? Looking forward to seeing this some more maybe at the meeting.

I'm looking forward to seeing all the models too when this group build comes to an end. Ken, don't feel bad about your bath - I glued my finger pretty good the other night with CA. I worked all night setting some battery lines only to see them pop off the next morning - I think it's I didn't remove the paint like I needed to for a good seal. Like you - a lot of time that I will have to go back and redo and finish surfaces.

Thanks, y'all.....I'm looking forward to seeing y'all's builds too...especially yours, Colby, and that B-47 Steve is building.

Colby, the weathering is a combination of airbrushing and chalks. I still think I might have overdone it, but I get more comfortable with it the more I look at it. I don't know what I'll do next. I'm working on this '61 Ford commision build, but after that, I have a couple of helis I'd like to do....The Red Bull BO-105 ( if I can ever find another kit!) and the Childrens Healthcare Of Atlanta BK-117 (homemade decals of course....might have to use an EC-145 kit, they're similar on the outside).

Perry, when I was building this, I couldn't find hardly any reference pictures, so I guessed at a lot of stuff...now, you got THREE pictures! Figures!

Looks great Tommy.

I have no problem with the extension. While mine might not be the fastest to get built in the bunch, It probably has the most miles, been riding around in my truck with me for about a month now. If I can get a break from paperwork in the evenings I might just be able to do something to it.

The "snow days" are giving me a little time to catch up...of course, Cheryl being on a visit with the kids in Florida also frees up the time, too...

I just finished one of the jet exhausts...took about two hours total. You wouldn't think it would take that much time on the exhausts for a 1/72 jet, would you???
Image
Just so you know...there are eighteen (yep, 18) parts in each one of the exhausts...thank goodness for Tenax, my favorite extremely-fast-setting glue!!!

Man, that's impressive. I'll bet you're glad you're not building a B-52.
That exhaust is mighty small, but it's looking good. I don't see the first speck of glue. That Christmas present is really coming in handy I'm sure.

Talk about having some build time, you're set for a couple more days. I'm at the point where I need to do some painting, but I'm afraid the little room I use in the base is too cold. I'm going to try it tomorrow afternoon. Hope I don't make a mess.

Oooooooooooohhhh, YES...and thanks again!!! I wore the Magnivisor through the whole process building this thingy...

Back at work on the other exhaust...I miscounted...there are actually 21 parts in each of these.
Image
The turkey feathers or whatever are in five pieces...you can see the other two, which will be added to complete the tailpipe, the whole thing fits into the round section, and the actuators (the tiny pieces on the sprue) are then attached. Five (5) pieces in the Feathers, one (1) in the circular piece, and fifteen (15) actuators = 21 pieces. The piece of polybutylene that I'm using to get the shape is a piece of supply line from the hall bathroom refit...Who knew that it would be just the right size for this???

I can't believe the number of pieces in that exhaust and for that scale - it sure does look good though. I couldn't understand the 2 hours until I saw your build photos in your second post - really nice job Keith.

Aquila - The cold has been my issue as well with painting (not to mention the fire place that makes me very sleepy all the time :) ). I build in the basement, and there is no heat down there. I have a little ceramic heater that works pretty well, and the light bulbs give off some good heat (except when I hit them with my forehead).

Looks like my F-15 is going on the back burner for now...I intend to use it as a testbed for the Renegade Velocity review, which is on a slow motion calendar for now...and I've got another project that has to be finished for a birthday in February.

Congrats to those that have finished this build...I've see some excellent work so far, and I look forward to seeing more...

Bummer! I hate that you won't be a Georgia Connection exhibitor this month. You'll be one several moths late.
Looking forward to seeing the B'day model.

I finally finished my GA Connection build - 1 day short of the January deadline. I showed it at the meeting last night, but I still had a little painting to do. I finished the painting this AM and here is the finished model. Overall, it's not one of my better efforts. In fact, it looks pathetic when compared to Tommy's beautiful car.

But, like everything else I build, I learned something about the real McCoy building its model.

More pics are on the Display Case.

My build got derailed when I accidentally stepped on the kit box and pulverized the little Academy Wildcat kit I had hoped to have ready at the last meeting. Lo and behold, the little Hobby Boss F4F-3 kit I picked up has the markings for a plane in prewar markings and....ta daaaa.... Butch O'Hare's MOH a/c from the Lex. Build underway, albeit too late for the official build, but it'll get done nonethelless. Sweet. :)
There's no problem that can't be solved with a suitable application of high explosives.

I make a motion to move the end date for the group build to the March meeting. I'd like to see everyone finish.

I shelved my F-16 due to other committments and an IPMS build. I'm out of the Group Build but it sounds like a good idea.

I think the ultimate goal is for everyone to finish their model at some point...the deadline is more of a "target date" in my eyes. I may finish sometime this year...

I guess I agree with both thoughts. Maybe we should establish a meeting date later in the year where we bring in all the finished models for a group picture.
